# Name Requests

> Submit and check name-change requests for an entity

Entity names can't be edited directly. They go through a review workflow. The `name-request` group lets you submit a proposed name and check its status.

## `geogen name-request submit`

Submit a name-change request. Maps to [`POST /v1/entities/name-request`](/api-reference/name-request-submit).

```

| Flag              | Description                       |
| ----------------- | --------------------------------- |
| `--entity <id>`   | Entity ID (required)              |
| `--name <name>`   | Suggested new name (required)     |
| `--reason <text>` | Optional context for the reviewer |

An admin reviews the request before the entity's display name actually changes.

## `geogen name-request status`

Check the status of an outstanding request. Maps to [`GET /v1/entities/name-request`](/api-reference/name-request-status).

```

The response includes the suggested name, reason, current status, and timestamps. If there's no pending or recent request, the CLI reports `no pending request`.
